What Is the CHI Program? And How to Fix Common App Issues

✍️ Written by FieldCare — based on Community Health Inspector field experience · Last updated: August 2026

The Community Health Inspector (CHI) program was launched to bring basic health services beyond hospitals and health centers, right to people's doorsteps. It began as a pilot in four districts in June 2025, followed by its official provincial launch in Lahore on January 7, 2026.

The idea behind the program is preventive healthcare — catching health issues early rather than treating them after they've become serious. To do this, CHIs go door to door, building a digital record for each household, conducting basic screening, and referring people to the right health facility when needed.

What is the program actually trying to achieve?

  • Build a complete digital health profile for every household
  • Collect demographic and health data for each family member
  • Screen for early signs of illness
  • Identify pregnant women, children, and others who need extra care
  • Raise health awareness among the public
  • Refer patients to the appropriate health facility when needed
  • Give the government reliable data so health planning is based on real, ground-level information

Where do you download the CHI app?

The CHI app is downloaded from the Google Play Store by searching HISDU. After installing it, each CHI signs in with their Portal ID before they can start field duty, household registration, or data entry. Some teams also keep a separate Excel Sheet for daily reporting or record verification, especially when a supervisor needs a summary of the households covered each day.

What does a CHI's day-to-day fieldwork actually look like?

A CHI's job isn't just data entry. At each household, the process runs through several stages: household registration, then family profiling, then individual profiling, health data collection, basic screening, spreading awareness, and finally referral and follow-up where needed. All of this gets recorded digitally through the CHI app.

What issues commonly come up in the CHI app?

Anyone who has actually worked in the field knows these aren't just "technical glitches" — they directly affect daily targets, time, and data accuracy. The most common issues include:

  • Data not saving, or sync failures
  • Trouble uploading data due to poor internet/network
  • CNIC or mobile number not showing correctly in the record
  • Duplicate household or family records
  • The same household getting registered twice
  • Confusion around parcel/house IDs
  • A mismatch between population count and registered members
  • The app running slow or crashing unexpectedly
  • Login/logout issues
  • Needing to correct or delete an existing record
  • A mismatch between the dashboard and actual field data

These issues come up often enough that this site has an entire section — "Common CHI App Issues & Fixes" — built specifically around real field experience, with detailed solutions for each one. If you're running into any trouble with the app, it's worth checking there first — there's a good chance your exact issue is already covered.
